About This Place

In the early and mid 20th century Morecambe was very much a thriving resort town.  Today things are a little quieter but the resort is not without its charm and there is still plenty going on.  Arcades, shops along with a variety of fish & chip shops, ice cream parlours and the like can all be found along the seafront. --> At the heart of the seafront is the promenade with a variety of art installations and thoughtfully designed games and puzzles for children to enjoy. The art-deco façade of the Midland Hotel has been restored to its former glory and in front of the hotel a stone jetty with benches and ornamental birds juts out into the sea.  This is an excellent place to admire the views over the vast expanse of sand and mudflats that make up Morecambe Bay.The beach itself is mainly sandy and can be popular with beachgoers in the summer months. There is no lifeguard cover and visitors need to beware of the dangers in the area. Incredibly fast tides, quicksand and other hazards make it dangerous to stray far out into the bay. Dogs are banned from the beach from the start of May to the end of September.  They are however allowed on the promenade but must be kept on leads.
