The string of small beaches on this stretch of Scotland’s west coast are famous for their stunning silver sands.  Along this 2 miles of coastline, from the village of Portnaluchaig in the south to Morar in the north, there are a number of small, sandy beaches along the rugged coastline, perfect for beach-combing, rockpooling, or just sitting and appreciating the wild beauty of this place. From these beaches are views out to the wonderfully-named isles of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna. --> The crystal clear, turquoise waters here are fairly shallow and have the advantage of being warmed by the Gulf Stream. At the northern end of this string of little coves, the beach becomes a vast sandy plain where a small river flows from Loch Morar, the deepest body of freshwater in the United Kingdom, into the sea. Thanks to its natural beauty, the beach has been used as a filming location in various movies such as Local Hero and Highlander. There is a car park at the beach, just outside of the town of Morar, along the B8008 and public toilets can be found here. From the car park, a relatively steep path descends down to the beach. More lay-bys where it is safe to park can be found along the B8008. There is also a golf club in the area and plenty of places to go for a walk and admire the breathtaking sea views. Morar has its own railway station along the Fort William – Mallaig line, and one hotel.
