Monreith Beach
๐ Whithorn, Kirkcudbrightshire
About This Place
Monreith is a long, wide, sandy beach backed by a rocky area and cliffs which lead up to the small village bearing the same name. The beach is popular for swimming in the summer and fishing throughout the year. There are also many rock pools that can be explored as well as many exciting caves which line this area of coast, the most famous of which is known as โButcherโs Caveโ. --> This area of coastline is also popular with walkers, particularly at low tide when large stretches of sand are exposed, suitable for taking long, bracing walks. Historic Barsalloch Fort can be found just to the north of the beach. It is possible to see many species of bird along this stretch of the coastline. There is some roadside parking available at the eastern end of the beach, which is reached down a long flight of steps.
๐ก Our Take
Looking for a dog-friendly escape? We at DogParkUK recommend Monreith Beach! Although specific details are scarce, the real draw here is that dogs are welcome year-round. Think happy sandy paws! Weโre unsure of the sand type, but a beach is a beach, right? Before you head out, be mindful parking information isn't available, so research options nearby beforehand. Unfortunately, we don't know the nearest facilities or swim safety status so extra vigilance is recommended. Monreith Beach may be a good choice for all dogs, big or small, but definitely proceed with caution if your dog is worried by waves.
