About This Place

Set at the end of a wooded valley near the village of St Ishmaels is a cove that is every bit as tranquil as its name - Monk Haven. This comes from a monastic settlement that existed here long ago. --> Whilst no traces of the monks remain it is hard not to notice the high castellated wall that runs across the back of the beach. This is a much more recent addition, being built by the 19th century owners of the estate that backs onto the beach - the Warren-Davis family of Trewarren. There are also the remains of a watchtower a little way along the coast path from here. Today the estate is largely farm land and the manor house (which was actually a vicarage) is run as a B&B. Looking out over the mouth of Milford Haven the beach here is both sheltered and offers great views over the waterway and beyond. To either side of the narrow bay are red sandstone headlands, providing further shelter from the breeze. Withthe only access to the general public being a walk along the footpath from St Ishmaels church Monk Haven is always a peaceful spot.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Looking for a dog-friendly beach in Wales? DogParkUK recommends Monk Haven! While details are limited, the best part is dogs are welcome year-round, meaning no seasonal restrictions. The sand type and facilities are unknown, so be prepared and bring your own water and waste bags. Parking info is also unclear, plan ahead just in case. Swim safety is also unknown, so be cautious! Monk Haven is a hidden gem for well-behaved dogs who love to explore. We think it's great for dogs who crave freedom. A pre-visit search for information about low and high tide is a must. Enjoy!
