Minnis Bay
📍 Margate, Kent
About This Place
Minnis Bay is a long family-friendly stretch of beach in the village of Birchington-on-Sea in an area known as the Isle of Thanet. It is east of the Thames Estuary, facing the North Sea midway between Herne Bay and Margate. --> The Blue Flag beach has opportunities for watersports activities include sailing, windsurfing, paddling, kayaking and beach games. There’s a paddling pool for youngsters and a lifeguard service. Like the surrounding area, the beach is almost flat and bordered by sand dunes. At low tide, a large expanse of sand is exposed and is ideal for walking, ball games and sunbathing. Minnis Bay is home to a good range of amenities including free car parking, toilets and a well-equipped children’s play area. There’s also a picnic area, kiosk for ice creams and a cafe on the promenade. The area is served by an open-top bus in summer, or bring bicycles and you can ride from Minnis Bay along the Viking Coastal Trail to Margate. Dogs are banned in summer.
💡 Our Take
Looking for a proper doggy day out in Kent? We at DogParkUK recommend Minnis Bay! Your furry friend can enjoy the sandy shores all year round with no seasonal restrictions, making it paw-fect for spontaneous trips. While details are limited, generally sandy beaches allow for lovely paddling. Parking nearby is a major bonus. Remember to bring fresh water as facilities may be a short trot away. This open space could be ideal for big dogs who love a good run and recall, but may need extra vigilance when swimming due to potentially choppy waters. Always check tide times before you go!
