About This Place

Stretching over a mile this expanse of golden sand offers some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere on the Welsh coast. Set on a peninsula that forms the south-westerly tip of Wales, Marloes Sands is exposed to the full force of the ocean. Combined with the high cliffs that back the beach, this is a very dramatic location. --> This is a fact that hasn’t escaped Hollywood and scenes from the 2011 film “Snow White and the Huntsman” featuring Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart were shot here. The 1968 historical drama “The Lion in Winter” was also filmed here.At low tide Marloes Sands becomes a continuous expanse of sand punctuated by rocky outcrops. However, it is worth keeping an eye on the tide times as the beach can all but disappear on the high tide leaving a scramble up the cliffs the only option.Whilst you are scrabbling up take time to appreciate the interesting geology of the layered sandstone and shale rock formations! As part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park it is little surprise that there is a wealth of wildlife to see here. Seals are regular visitors and there is a mass of bird life. The nearby islands of Skomer and Skokholm are home to colonies of puffin, shearwaters, petrels, razorbills and just about any other type of seabird you can imagine. There is a National Trust car park half a mile from the beach and the nearest facilities are in the village of Marloes a little further up the road.

💡 Our Take

Looking for a dog-friendly beach in Wales? We at DogParkUK think you'll love Marloes Sands in Pembrokeshire! It's fantastic because dogs are welcome *year-round* on this sandy expanse - perfect for zoomies! While facilities are limited nearby, ample parking makes it easily accessible. Always check tide times beforehand, as high tide significantly reduces the beach area. The water is generally safe for swimming, but always supervise your pups. Marloes Sands is brilliant for energetic dogs who love a good run and a splash! Keep your dog on lead near nesting birds though!
