About This Place

The charming seaside town of Criccieth sits behind a rocky headland and is dominated by the picturesque ruins of a 13th century castle.Β  The castle, which is now in ruins, was built by Llewellyn the Great, and later modified by Edward 1st, and offers fine views of Tremadog Bay and the Snowdonia National Park in the distance. --> The town has two beaches, on either side of the castle, with West Beach (otherwise known as Marine Beach) being on the western side.Β  The beach is predominantly composed of shingle, and is used by bathers, as well as by walkers who can either walk along the beach itself, or along the footpath behind it all the way round the bay to Pwllheli. The Gulf Stream passes nearby, and the bay enjoys a relatively mild climate.Β  Seals, porpoises and dolphins can sometimes be spotted in the surf along this stretch of the coast. Parking and some good amenities, including tea-rooms, restaurants and take-aways can be found in Criccieth, which also has a promenade and a flower-decked High Street, featuring some quirky shops.
