About This Place

Lynmouth is a shingle beach just below the village of Lynmouth on the northern edge of Exmoor National Park. The beach here is about 500 meters wide and is divided by the mouth of the River Lyn which also forms the small harbour. Lynmouth beach is surrounded by spectacular high cliffs, hills and woodlands. --> Given the right conditions Lynmouth is known as one of the best surf spots in Devon, although this happens only a few times every year. The beach is also used for fishing, and at low tide there are some good rockpools. Deckchairs can be hired on the beach during the summer season. In general, the beach and surrounding area is popular with walkers and the views from the cliffs above the beach are spectacular. Watch out for deer as well as dolphins breaking the surf. There is plenty of parking, including disabled parking along the esplanade just above the beach, as well as a gift shop, a fish bar and public toilets. The Lynton Cliff Railway takes visitors up the side of a cliff into the town of Lynton and is worth doing just for the unique experience. In the town there are many more shops, pubs and restaurants.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Lynmouth Beach, in beautiful North Devon, is a fantastic, dog-friendly escape! Your furry friend is welcome YEAR-ROUND, so any time is doggy fun time! The beach is mostly sand and shingle, ideal for digging paws. Parking's available nearby though can get busy in peak season, so arrive early. There are no publicly advertised facilities; so bring all your doggy necessities and water. Swim safety varies, so keep a close eye on your pup in the water. This beach is ideal for more confident, bigger dogs who enjoy space to roam and splash! Always supervise your dogs, especially near the harbour entrance.
