📍 Fort William, Perthshire
About This Place
Fort William lies at the foot of Ben Nevis, in a scenic location on the banks of Loch Linnhe, a tidal sea loch. To the north of the town, near the railway station and a large supermarket, the Underwater Centre is a subsea training and trials facility. A pier stretches out into the loch here and to the left of the pier, as you face the loch, lies a small shingle beach with views down Loch Linnhe and of the surrounding hills and mountains. --> Behind the beach stand the remains of the Old Fort, which gave the town its name. A couple of information boards tell something of the history of this site, which played an important role during the tragic history of the Jacobite uprisings. The waters of Loch Linnhe are enjoyed by all kinds of watersport enthusiasts. Why not try a bit of open water swimming- with or without a wet-suit? Fishing for Pollock, mackerel, and conger eel, to name but a few of the fish found in the loch, is also popular.
💡 Our Take
Discover the serene escape of Loch Linnhe Beach, a picturesque haven nestled in the Scottish Highlands near Glencoe. This splendid sandy shoreline allows dogs the freedom to roam year-round, making it a perfect retreat for energetic pups and larger breeds needing space to stretch their legs. With ample parking nearby, you can easily bring along all essentials for a fun day out. Though its shores are sandy, be mindful of the rocky waters, which are not ideal for swimming. This tranquil spot is an idyllic choice for dogs who enjoy peaceful exploration and relaxed play. Enjoy a tail-wagging day at Loch Linnhe!
