Lifeboat Station Beach (Redcar)
📍 Redcar, Yorkshire
About This Place
This pleasant, sandy beach sits close to the resort town of Redcar, just east of Middlesbrough. The sand is an ideal destination for those wanting to relax in the sun, and is good for building sandcastles. The area is also used by watersport enthusiasts. This area of beach has gained a Seaside Award for cleanliness and good water quality. Lifeboat Station Beach forms part of the vast expanse of sandy coastline, stretching from South Gare in the north down to Granville in the south. --> An esplanade runs alongside the beach and is home to the Redcar Lifeboat Station, one of the RNLI’s oldest lifeboat stations. If you’re interested in the history of the RNLI in this area, a visit to the Zetland Lifeboat Museum, about a mile away is time well spent. As well as providing a home to the original Zetland Lifeboat, the museum houses an interesting collection of local photographs, artefacts and local memorabilia. Nearby Redcar Beacon is the place to go if you want a 360 degree view over the locality. It’s free to enter and has an open-roof terrace on the top floor with stunning views over the seafront.
💡 Our Take
Looking for a dog-friendly beach in North Yorkshire? DogParkUK recommends Lifeboat Station Beach, Redcar! This sandy stretch welcomes dogs year-round, making it paw-fect for off-season adventures. Parking nearby makes it easy, but note that facilities are limited, so pack water and waste bags. While there's no lifeguard, the generally shallow waters offer relatively safe swimming. Best for hardy dogs who love to run and chase, however, due to open access, it may not be ideal for anxious pups or those still learning recall. Tip: always check local tide times before you visit!
