About This Place
Located just up the coast from the White Cliffs of Dover, Kingsdown has a secluded shingle beach, with plenty of benches suitable for picnics. At low tide some areas of sand are exposed as well as a chalk shelf. --> The beach is backed by grassy scrubland and flanked on one side by chalk cliffs. The area is not particularly developed and is a good beach to come to for walks when you feel like getting away from it all. Swimming is not really recommended because of the sudden way the shingle shelves and also because there are strong currents in the area. The shingle slopes quite steeply into the sea, and access onto the beach might be difficult for those with mobility problems. At low tide a number of rockpools are exposed, making this a good place to hunt for sealife. Seals are also occasionally spotted along this stretch of coast. In clear weather there are views of the French coastline. From Kingsdown beach it is possible to take the purpose-built cycle track towards Deal, or alternatively to walk in the other direction towards St Margaret’s Bay. There are three pubs in the area, one of which is literally right on the seafront, but otherwise few facilities.
💡 Our Take
Looking for a carefree dog beach in Kent? Kingsdown Beach ticks all the boxes! This sandy stretch welcomes dogs year-round, a big plus! The gentle waves make it brilliant for confident swimmers. Parking is nearby, though facilities are limited so bring your own water. This beach, unrestricted and with softish sand, is ideal for big dogs needing a good run! It's also great for puppies still building confidence. A handy tip: keep a close eye on the tide as it comes in quickly. Kingsdown's a fantastic spot for relaxed, sandy fun with your best friend. Highly recommended!
