About This Place

Kilclief Beach lies on the western side of the “Narrows” of Strangford Lough. This gently curving little bay has stunning views to the lough and out to the Irish Sea. In the middle of the Narrows lies the Angus Rock Lighthouse, while in the distance it is possible to see the Isle of Man. --> The calm, clean waters of Kilclief make it ideal for activities like paddle boarding, swimming and kayaking. However, given its relatively remote location and absence of a lifeguard, some care should be taken. The beach is overlooked by Kilclief Castle, a 15th-century tower house that adds a historic touch. Just over 10 minutes up the road is Castle Ward, better known as “Winterfell” - the home of the Stark family in Game of Thrones. There is a small car park nearby, and access to the beach is straightforward via a short path. It’s not a busy spot, and part of the appeal is its simplicity - no cafés or shops, just a clean stretch of coastline with space to relax and take in the sea air.

💡 Our Take

Kilclief Beach, located in County Down, offers a dog-friendly haven where pups can frolic year-round on its soft, sandy shores. With no restrictions, your furry friend can enjoy playful romps and boundless freedom. While parking is limited, the tranquility of this beach is worth the effort, especially for larger breeds needing space. Nearby facilities are sparse, so pack essentials. Despite calm waters, always keep a close eye on your adventurous swimmer. Perfect for easygoing dogs or those needing gentle introductions to beach fun, Kilclief's serene atmosphere will ensure a wagging tail and a peaceful day by the sea.
