Hoylake Beach
📍 Hoylake, Merseyside
About This Place
Hoylake Beach sits near the north-west tip of the Wirral Peninsula, looking out across the Dee Estuary towards the North Wales coast. It is a wide, flat beach with firm sand and big skies making it ideal for walking, horse riding, and birdwatching. --> Over recent years the sand in the inter-tidal range has given way to a covering of vegetation. Previously this had been removed by the council, but given the beach’s status as an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) this has been under discussion whilst an ongoing plan is reached. Currently it looks like some form of compromise will be achieved with sections of the beach being cleared of grass. The tide goes out a long way at Hoylake, exposing vast sandflats and mudflats that are part of the Dee Estuary’s internationally important wetland habitat. It is a major site for wading birds and wildfowl, particularly in autumn and winter. Hoylake is also well known for its links to sailing and wind-sports. The consistent winds and open sands make it a popular spot for land yachting and kitesports, especially when the beach is quiet. However, swimming is not advised due to fast-moving tides and soft sands further out. The beach is easily accessible from the promenade via a slipway, with parking, toilets and cafés within easy walking distance. It’s a short walk from the centre of Hoylake, and the Royal Liverpool Golf Club sits just behind the dunes to the west.
💡 Our Take
DogParkUK gives Hoylake Beach a paws-up (when we know more!). Found on the Wirral Peninsula, it's a dog-friendly spot where pups can enjoy the sandy shores year-round, restrictions-free! Perfect for zoomies or a gentle paddle. Sadly, we don't have the full details yet but, beaches like these are great for socialised big dogs. Ensure you bring ample water, especially on warmer days! Sadly, we don't have information on parking or nearby facilities yet. Once we do, we'll update you! But get yourself to the beach and let us know what you think.
