About This Place

Hornsea South is a sand and shingle beach located next to the small seaside resort of Hornsea on Yorkshireโ€™s East Riding coast. It is a popular beach for many different water sports and also for walkers with the Transpennine Trail finishing here. --> This part of the coastline is subject to coastal erosion and a number of small villages in the area are now submerged by the sea.ย  After a major storm in 1906, a sea wall was built to protect Hornsea. The beach is also lined with wooden groynes to prevent the beach from being washed away. The town has existed since the medieval period, but was expanded during Victorian times when it became a popular seaside retreat. There is a promenade running alongside the beach. The beach itself is reached either down a short flight of stairs or a slipway.ย  There is plenty of parking available in Hornsea, close to the beach. There are also toilets, shops and places to eat. Beyond the town is Hornsea Mere, one of the largest lakes in Yorkshire. It is a popular place for bird watchers and is the base for the Hornsea Sailing Club.

๐Ÿ’ก Our Take

Hornsea South Beach in East Riding of Yorkshire is a haven for dog owners. Its vast stretches of fine sand allow dogs to roam freely year-round, making it perfect for both energetic puppies and large breeds needing space to play. While there are no restrictions on dogs, always bring water as there are minimal facilities nearby and the sea can be unpredictable, so ensure pups are supervised while swimming. Transport links and ample parking make visits stress-free. DogParkUK recommends visiting at off-peak times for a quieter experience, especially for more anxious dogs who prefer a peaceful beach adventure.
