Holywood Beach, also known as Seapark, sits on the southern shore of Belfast Lough, just a short distance from Belfast city centre. It’s a small, easily accessible stretch of sand and shingle with a relaxed, local atmosphere. The beach is backed by a promenade and green space, making it a popular spot for walking, running and family outings. Given its proximity to the city, it does tend to get rather busy on sunny summer days. --> The water here is calm and sheltered within the lough, with views across to County Antrim and the hills beyond. The wide tidal range means the beach changes character through the day, with exposed mudflats at low tide attracting seabirds and waders. Given strong tides, lack of lifeguards and large boats passing, we wouldn’t recommend more than a paddle here. Holywood is also the start of the North Down Coastal Path, a popular walking route covering the 16 miles to Portavoe, via Bangor and a host of stunning scenery. Facilities are good, with parking, toilets and a children’s play area nearby. Holywood town centre is within walking distance, offering cafés, restaurants and shops. . On a clear day, it’s an ideal spot to stretch your legs, watch the ships heading into Belfast Harbour, and take in the views across the Lough to Antrim’s distant hills.
