About This Place

Hampton-on-Sea is a small seaside settlement close to Herne Bay.  The area of beach west of the pier is predominantly shingle, with mud and some patches of sand exposed at low tide. --> There are a number of groynes and other sea defences- this part of the coastline has been the subject of significant coastal erosion. From the beach there are views out over the Thames Estuary. Hampton Pier beach is backed by a promenade, behind which is Hampton Pier Recreation Ground- a good spot for a summer picnic. Parking with public toilets can be found adjacent to the pier, at the end of Hampton Pier Avenue.  There is also a car park close to the beach on Swalecliffe Avenue.
