Glenthorne Beach
π Lynton, Devon
About This Place
Situated on the Devon / Somerset border on the Exmoor Coast is the oft deserted beach of Glenthorne. In fact it is more common for the beach to be empty than not. --> Set at the bottom of high wooded cliffs Glenthorne Beach was once part of a country estate. There are a few remnants of these days including a ruined boathouse, a trout pool and some old lime kilns. These combine with the natural interest features such as a small waterfall, caves and geologically important rock formations. The beach itself is a pleasant enough spot, although the pebbles are actually rock-sized making walking the shoreline hard work. One of the high points of a visit to Glenthorne is the lovely walk down through the woods. From the car park at County Gate the path descends over 1,000 feet (300m) to the beach below.
π‘ Our Take
We at DogParkUK highly recommend a visit to Glenthorne Beach! While we don't have all the details, we believe it offers year-round, unrestricted access for your furry friends. Imagine your dog digging in the sand and splashing in the water. Before you go, do some research on the local area (Devon?) so you know what to expect in terms of parking and facilities and importantly tide times. If your dog loves open spaces, this might be the perfect place, especially for big dogs that need to stretch their legs. Just be mindful of swim safety and potential currents. Always keep your dog within sight. Have fun!
