About This Place
Gelliswick is a sheltered sand and shingle and sits in a bay close to Milford Haven. The beach got its name from the Vikings who invaded this part of the coast of Pembrokeshire which is why there is a βvikβ suffix applied to the name which means harbour. --> It used to be popular for swimming as at low tide a wide stretch of sand is revealed although nowadays people tend to use the beach for water sports. Gelliswick is also the location of the Pembrokeshire Yacht Club and anyone who loves to sail should check it out. There are events held in the bay regularly and occasionally you can catch some national competitions here. The beach is surrounded by cliffs and to the east you will find Fort Hubberston which was built in 1863.
π‘ Our Take
Gelliswick Beach in Pembrokeshire, UK, is a fantastic hidden gem for dog lovers! Dogs are welcome year-round, making it ideal for off-season adventures. The sand is soft, perfect for digging and playful pups. Parking is conveniently located nearby, though toilet facilities are a bit of a walk. While seemingly calm, do check the tide times before letting your dog swim, as currents can appear quickly. Gelliswick is especially great for confident swimmers! We'd recommend it particularly for bigger dogs, but keep an eye on younger puppies near the water. Enjoy!
