About This Place

The historic harbour town of Eyemouth is a 15-minute drive up the coast from Berwick-upon-Tweed.  A sandy beach, backed by a sea wall lies immediately west of the harbour wall.  The beach is popular with locals as well as visitors from further afield. At low tide plenty of rockpools are exposed in which youngsters may enjoy hunting for crabs, starfish and other marine life.  A marine reserve can be found off the coast, with a variety of sealife which attracts divers from around the world. Seals can often be spotted in the bay. --> At low tide, Hukur Rocks become visible outside the mouth of the harbour.  In 1881 a number of ships were wrecked here.  The rocks and the curve of the bay generally provide some protection from the elements, although big storms have been known to generate waves in the bay which can be seen to crash spectacularly into the sea wall. The town of Eyemouth has some interesting historic buildings and offers a good fish and chip shop, cafes, restaurants and a leisure centre with two swimming pools. The working harbour here can be an interesting place to wander round, watching the fishermen at work.

💡 Our Take

DogParkUK recommends Eyemouth Beach in Berwickshire for a fantastic canine day out. Dogs are welcome all year round to frolic on the sandy shores, making it perfect for splash-loving pups. The fine, soft sand is a delight for paws, and there's plentiful parking nearby for convenience. Facilities are limited, so plan ahead with water and snacks. While the beach is generally safe for swimming, always keep an eye on your furry friend in case of tides. Ideal for adventurous big dogs and confident swimmers, it’s a splendid spot to enjoy a relaxed, leash-free day together by the sea.
