Eastoke Beach (Hayling Island)
π Portsmouth, Hampshire
About This Place
Hayling Island has a long, fairly wide pebble beach running along the approximately 5- kilometre length of the south coast of the island.Β The shoreline is interspersed by wooden groynes. To the west, the beach merges with Beachlands Central Beach. Below the high tide mark there are some sandy stretches. --> The beach is popular for swimming and water sports. At high tide it can get deep quite quickly, so swimming here is best left to competent swimmers, whilst at low tide the water is fairly shallow. Windsurfing was actually invented on Hayling Island and it remains a popular pastime here today, as is sailing. Behind the beach, visitors will find a large car park with direct access to the beach at the end of Sea Front road. There is also a large, grassy area, suitable for picnics, public toilets, and a childrenβs playground. A seaside railway runs behind the beach. Along the seafront visitors will find a large selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants. Further parking with access to the beach and toilets can be found on Southwood Road. East of Sea Front, a promenade for pedestrians runs alongside the beach.
