Dunure Beach
📍 Ayr, Ayrshire
About This Place
Dunure is a picturesque village on the Ayrshire coast, built around a small, historic harbour. The harbour area has an inn, popular with diners and a number of picnic tables. --> The beach at Dunure is mainly shingle, with some areas of dark sand and has a number of rocky outcrops. Next to the beach can be found the romantic ruins of Dunure Castle thought to date back to at least the 13th century. This was once the seat of the Clan Kennedy and Mary Queen of the Scots is said to have stayed here in 1563. The castle has been in ruins for over 300 years. In clear weather there are good views over the Firth of Clyde towards the Isle of Arran and beyond that to the Mull of Kintyre Peninsula. Cars can be parked near the castle and there is a children’s play area here.
💡 Our Take
Looking for a perfect dog beach in Ayrshire? Dunure Beach welcomes furry friends all year! The sand is perfect for digging, and unrestricted access means happy pups. Parking is available nearby, but immediate facilities are limited, so bring water. Swim safety can vary, be cautious of currents. Dunure would be suitable for calm dogs who like a walk and perhaps a paddle. Best for dogs who can be trusted off-lead as it's open, but always be mindful of the tide! This makes it an ideal spot for a relaxing canine day out by the sea.
