About This Place

This sand and pebble beach lies on the Bristol Channel and has views out across the water towards South Wales. Immediately behind the beach, “The Hawn” is a body of water which was at one time a navigable channel.  In medieval times there was a harbour here.  Today The Hawn is a freshwater lake and provides a haven for bird life. --> Although there is no lifeguard here, the beach is used for bathing during the summer months. The 5-mile long West Somerset Coastal Path passes the beach, so the area is also popular with walkers at any time of year.  Parking is found at the end of Sea Lane, and it is possible to park vehicles immediately next to the beach, giving easy access for those with mobility difficulties.  There are facilities to be found close to the beach, including a picnic area. Dunster Station, one of the stops on the historic West Somerset Railway steam train service, is a short walk from the beach.

💡 Our Take

Located in the picturesque village of Dunster in Somerset, Dunster (South) Beach is a year-round haven for dogs and their owners. The soft sand is perfect for paws, and without any restrictions, it’s an ideal spot for all breeds, from playful puppies to big, bounding dogs. While there are no immediate facilities on the beach, ample parking nearby makes access easy. Dogs will love the wide-open space, but keep an eye out for tides if your pet loves a splash. The serene environment is perfect for more anxious dogs seeking a less crowded escape. A delightful spot for your furry friend!
