About This Place

Drigg beach sits on the edge of the Lake District, a couple of miles along the Cumbria coast from Ravenglass. It feels every bit as off-the-beaten-track as it is, and despite being the best sandy beach for miles, youโ€™ll rarely find more than a handful of people here. --> Above the high tide mark is a mix of sand, shingle and larger pebbles. As the tide recedes the beach extends far out, revealing wide, flat sands that are perfect for walking as it stretches into the distance. The southern end of Drigg beach is bounded by the River Irt as it flows into the sea. To the north is the village of seascale, a fairly pleasant little Victorian resort complete with golf course. However, itโ€™s hard to miss the villageโ€™s most (in)famous feature, the nuclear processing plant of Sellafield. The beach is backed by extensive sand dunes which form the Drigg Dunes and Coastline nature reserve - a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). This habitat supports a variety of wildlife, including seabirds and rare plants but is best known for the natterjack toads which breed here. Youโ€™ll also notice a number of old brick-built military look outs in the dunes.

๐Ÿ’ก Our Take

We at DogParkUK highly recommend Drigg Beach! Nestled in Cumbria, this beach offers glorious year-round access for your furry friends. Expect firm sand perfect for zoomies and easy walking โ€“ paws won't sink! Parking is available nearby, but be aware that there are no immediate facilities at the beach, so pack water and poop bags. Swim safety can vary, so keep a close watch, especially on energetic pups. Drigg is fantastic for dogs of all sizes, but particularly good for those who enjoy a good run and explore. Remember to check tide times before you go, for maximum fun!
