About This Place

Dores Beach sits on the shores of Scotland’s most famous lake, Loch Ness, about eight miles from Inverness. It is one of the most popular points to access the loch, offering a fairly wide stretch of shingle and pebble with open views across the water. The beach has a wonderfully open feel, and on clear days the views are impressive. Looking southwest, the loch extends into the distance, flanked by steep hills and forested slopes. --> Of course, Loch ness is most famous for Nessie - the Loch ness Monster. Dores Beach is where you will find a well-known local character, Steve Feltham, AKA “The Nessie Hunter”. His van is permanently parked up in prime position overlooking the loch, should Nessie choose to make an appearance. Equally well-positioned on the waterfront is the Dores Inn; a family-run pub serving local favourites, such as traditional haggis, seafood, neeps and tatties. It is worth noting that given Dores beach’s prime position on such an iconic lake it can get very busy during the summer months.
