Deganwy Beach
π Conwy, Gwynedd
About This Place
Deganwy is a long, sand and shingle beach which sits just to the north of the mouth of the River Conwy. There are strong currents in the area, which make swimming and wading out onto sand banks dangerous. --> The beach is mostly shingle at the top, and becomes sandier closer to the waterβs edge. A relatively low sea wall backs most of the beach, along which there is a bicycle and walking track offering excellent views of the surrounding mountainous countryside across the mouth of the river and to the north of the beach around Great Orme. Along the promenade, a beach hut cafe offers food and drink. Platt Field Car Park, along the A546 offers the most convenient access to the centre of the beach, with a footbridge from the car park over the railway line. Some roadside parking can be found along Marine Crescent to the south of the beach, from which there is direct access. Facilities such as shops and restaurants can be found in the town of Deganwy as well as a railway station along the North Wales Coast Line. The ruins of Deganwy Castle, dating back to the 6th century, sit on a hill overlooking the town.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a great dog beach in Wales? Deganwy Beach, near Llandudno, is a hidden gem! Dogs are welcome year-round so it's perfect for off-season adventures. The soft sand makes for happy paws, and while parking is nearby, facilities are limited, so pack accordingly - take water! Swimming's generally safe, but always keep an eye on the tide. Its open stretches are ideal for energetic dogs who love to run. Perhaps not the best for tiny puppies due to the open space, but a great spot to unleash your big buddy. Enjoy!
