Cullen Beach
📍 Cullen, Aberdeenshire
About This Place
Cullen is an attractive, golden sandy beach to the west of the village of the same name. It overlooks Cullen Bay, which gives the waters here some degree of shelter from the strongest currents, making it a good beach for swimming and snorkelling. --> The beach is perhaps best known for its rock formation; The Three Kings beach stack. Legend has it that these 4 metre tall quartzite stacks are the gravestones of three Norse Kings who died at the Battle of Bauds in 962. Cullen Links Golf Club can be found behind the beach, with views over the bay. The beach is also popular for water sports such as surfing and sailing, and for fishing, and walking. At low tide a fair number of rockpools become exposed, which can be fun to explore with children. Dolphins are common along this stretch of coastline, and if you’re lucky you may catch a glimpse of a pod of these delightful creatures jumping in the surf. Free parking is available underneath the railway viaduct which offers direct access on to the beach. Toilets are now open here in summer, along with a drinking water refill facility. Next to the car park is a grassy area with picnic tables offering excellent views of the town, beach, and surrounding coastline. Dog bins can also be found here. The historic railway viaduct is now part of the national cycle network which passes the beach. Further facilities such as pubs, restaurants, and places to stay can be found in Cullen, a village with a history dating back over one thousand years.
💡 Our Take
Cullen Beach in Moray, Scotland, is a fantastic off-leash haven for dogs year-round! Its vast expanse of golden sand makes it ideal for zoomies. With unrestricted access, even reactive pups can find space. Parking is close by, though remember that nearest facilities are in the village a short walk away. Swim safety can vary with tides, so always keep a close eye on your dog. Cullen Beach is best for energetic dogs and confident swimmers but might be overwhelming for tentative puppies. Our tip: check tide times before you go to enjoy the widest stretch of sand!
