About This Place

The crescent of sand and shingle beach at Criccieth sits in the lee of a a rocky headland upon which stand the imposing ruins of a 13th century castle. This headland provides lots of shelter from the prevailing westerly winds and combined with a gently sloping beach provides an excellent family beach. --> Towards the castle end of the beach tends to be more shingle whilst as you head eastwards the beach becomes more sandy as it stretches away into Tremadog bay. A promenade runs along the back of the beach from which there are plenty of access points, many of which are suitable for disabled visitors. Beyond this is the small town of Criccieth itself where you will find a range of shops, cafes and pubs. The name Traeth y Promenade comes from the Welsh β€˜traeth’, meaning beach and the rest you can probably figure out! It is one of two beaches in the small town of Criccieth and also referred to as the East beach.
