About This Place

Cowie is a mostly shingle beach at the northern end of the town of Stonehaven, offering excellent views over Stonehaven Bay and harbour, and the impressive rocky headlands to the south. The area is popular for water sports, fishing, and walking. --> At the southern end, the beach is bounded by the mouth of Cowie Water and by rocky outcrops at the northern end. The beach is backed by a promenade, from where it can be accessed down a short flight of steps. Facilities such as a cafΓ©, shop, and a heated open air swimming pool can be found along the beachfront. Parking is also available along the promenade. Further facilities can be found in the town centre of Stonehaven, a little less than half a mile to the south of the beach, including a large selection of shops, places to eat, and places to stay. It also boasts a museum, and a railway station with regular services to Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Looking for a chilled beach trip in Aberdeenshire? Cowie Beach in Stonehaven welcomes dogs year-round! Your furry friends will love bounding across the mixed sand and pebble terrain. Parking is conveniently nearby. While there aren't many immediate facilities *on* the beach, Stonehaven's shops and cafes aren't far. The water is generally safe for swimming, but always supervise your pooch, especially with strong currents. Cowie Beach is great for older dogs who love steady walks or energetic dogs who love fetch! It can be a little exposed, so pack a windproof coat.
