About This Place

Coral Beach (or Coral Beaches) is situated in the north of the Isle of Skye by the small crofting community of Claigan, which is a few miles along a single track lanefrom the village of Dunvegan. --> The name conjures up images of a tropical beach and on the right day the view won’t disappoint, although the temperatures probably will! With crystal clear blue water and white sand stretching off to the distinctive “Ghrobain”, a flat-topped hill, this is a stunning spot. The ‘coral’ in the name actually comes from ‘Red Coralline’, a type of seaweed that grows on the reef offshore. Much of the sand on the beach is made up of the fossilised sun-bleached skeletons of this seaweed, along with various shells. At low tide you can walk across to and explore the small island of Lampay, although you will need to check the tide times to make sure you don’t get stranded.

💡 Our Take

Looking for a dog-friendly beach with year-round access? Head to Coral Beach in Scotland! While the sand is actually crushed coral, it’s perfect for paws. Your furry friend will love splashing in the shallows, but be mindful of strong currents. Parking is sometimes limited, so arriving early is a good idea. There aren't immediate facilities, which is something to note. This beach is best for dogs who like wide open spaces and the possibility of a good swim - energetic dogs will appreciate burning off some energy! We think Coral Beach provides a wonderfully scenic place to take the pups for a truly memorable day out.
