About This Place
Cockle Shore is a sandy beach located to the east of the town and port of Stranraer, in the bay of Loch Ryan. It is a popular beach for having a paddle and fishing as well as watching the boats leaving the nearby port. Parts of the beach are also used by windsurfers and kite-surfers. --> With a reputation of being one of the cleanest beaches in the area Cockle Shore is also a good place for wildlife watching with sea ducks and gulls wintering here.Β Nearby Stranraer is the second largest town in the Scottish county of Dumfries and Galloway. It has a rail station with connections to Glasgow and a National Express service to London. The town caters well to tourists with a selection of restaurants and shops, a museum, and a medieval tower house. The ruins of Kennedy Castle and its grounds are located nearby and are worth a visit. They are about a mile from the beach to the north of Castle Kennedy village, in between two lochs.
