City Beach (Sunderland)
π Sunderland, Tyne and Wear
About This Place
This small section of sandy, urban beach is found on the south side of Roker Pier, in Sunderland. The beach is sheltered by the pier and a sea wall to the south, beyond which is the harbour where the River Wear enters the sea.Β --> City beach is backed by two large car parks and a promenade.Β There is a fish and chip shop, and cafes can also be found along the promenade. On the south bank of the River Wear are Sunderland Docks. It is possible to walk along the pier to the distinctive red-and-white-striped lighthouse that has stood here since 1903. Every July, a large, international air show is organised in Roker, immediately to the north of the beach.
π‘ Our Take
Sunderland's City Beach is a great year-round, dog-friendly escape in Tyne and Wear. With seemingly unrestricted access, your furry friend can enjoy the expansive sandy beach, perfect for zoomies and digging! Parking is available nearby, though local amenities are a short walk away. We don't have swim safety data, so keep a close eye on your dog near the water. This wide open space is ideal for dogs who love to run, although it might be overwhelming for very anxious pups. *Pro-tip: Always pack your own water bowl, regardless!* It's a simple but brilliant spot for dogs of all sizes.
