Challaborough Beach
π Kingsbridge, Devon
About This Place
Part of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the sheltered sandy beach of Challaborough Bay combines a horseshoe cove with rugged cliffs. The beach is a combination of rock and sand, and the perfect location to build sand castles, explore rock pools at low tide, and watch the ebb and flow of the sea swells. --> The beach is surrounded by the Holiday Park, which has a private car park; spaces may be available for a fee just a short walk from the sand. There are plenty of facilities including public toilets, a cafΓ©, and a beach shop in season. RNLI lifeguards are on duty in the summer season. A sloping path and slipway lead to the beach from the road. There is a ramp at the northern end of the beach, plus concrete stairs and a handrail. Challaborough is a popular choice for bodyboarders and surfers: all levels of enthusiasts are found here. There can be strong undercurrents in this location as well as large breaking waves. Visitors are advised not to use inflatables when the weather is windy.Β The Art Deco hotel on Burgh Island is visible from the bay, and at low tide itβs possible to reach the island; itβs totally covered by water when the tide is in.
π‘ Our Take
Nestled in the charming South Devon coast, Challaborough Beach is a fantastic haven for dogs year-round. Its soft sandy shores and gentle waves make it ideal for big dogs who love splashing around or small puppies just getting their paws wet. Unlike many beaches, there are no seasonal restrictions here, so your four-legged friends can frolic freely. Convenient parking is available nearby, though do bring your essentials as facilities are sparse. DogParkUK recommends ensuring your pet's safety as currents might be strong. Perfect for a leisurely escape with your pets, Challaborough Beach is a wag-worthy outing for all.
