Burnmouth lies on the eastern end of the vast expanse of beach known as Dornoch Sands.  It has a reputation for being one of the cleanest beaches in the area and the water quality here is excellent. --> From the beach there are lovely views over the Dornoch Firth. Gallrope Bank, a large sandbank is sometimes also visible at low tide. The sandy beach is backed by grassy dunes, home to a good variety of plant and animal life.  The area next to the beach has been designated a Special Site of Scientific Interest. Behind this quiet, rural beach lies a grassy airstrip.
