About This Place

This lovely sandy bay is located a couple of miles north of Bamburgh. Something of a hidden gem, the beach at Budle Bay consists of a fairly narrow strip of sand that hugs the southern side of the square-shaped bay. Beyond the grassy dunes which back the beach is nothing but the rolling Northumberland countryside. --> At low tide the estuary empties to reveal a wide expanse of sand and mud flats. Through this snakes a shallow river formed from the streams of Warren Burn and Ross Low. Budle Bay is a popular spot for birdwatching and wildlife in general. The shallow waters of the bay attract a host of wildfowl, wading and migratory birds. You may also spot grey seals, dolphins and even otters in the bay. Centuries ago a busy port operated from Budle Bay serving Bamburgh. The harbour is long gone, buried under the silt, but there are a few reminders such as the stone quay and nearby Warren Mill.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Looking for a dog-friendly beach in Northumberland? Budle Bay is a fantastic choice! Your furry friend can enjoy year-round, unrestricted access to miles of glorious sand. Parking is available nearby, though immediate facilities are limited. Budle Bay is known for its shallow waters, making it ideal for gentle paddling, though always supervise your dog near the sea. The expansive space makes it brilliant for big dogs who need to run, but be mindful of tides. Anxious dogs might also enjoy the relative quiet compared to busier beaches. A handy tip: bring fresh water, as there isn't any easily accessible on the beach!
