Brora Beach
📍 Dornoch, Highland
About This Place
This wild, unspoiled beach, running alongside the local golf course is a hidden gem. It offers spectacular views over the North Sea and the Moray Firth. Beautiful sunsets over the hills can be seen from the beach. --> The sea waters here are crystal clear but, not surprisingly, usually very cold. In addition there is no lifeguard so care should be taken if you do intend to swim. Brora beach is an excellent spot for wildlife watching. As well as inquisitive seals, otters, heron and Arctic tern, visitors have a chance of spotting dolphins and even minke whale out at sea. There is even prehistoric wildlife in the form of fossils which might be found at the mouth of the river. At low tide the stretch of clean, golden sand north of the river Brora is good for beach-combing and kite-flying. Attractive shells can be found, and the clean sands and opportunities for spotting wildlife combine to make this an excellent destination for a day out with children. On the southern side of the river the beach is rockier and more exposed to the winds. Basking seals are a common sight in this area of the beach. Free parking is available at the golf club car park. There are also toilets and a café. The beach is an excellent destination for a bracing walk and is dog-friendly. There are a number of dog bins.
💡 Our Take
Brora Beach, in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, is a fantastic year-round destination for your canine companion! With no restrictions, the soft, golden sand offers endless digging and zoomies, perfect for bouncy pups or seniors needing gentle exercise. While lacking onsite facilities, Brora village is nearby for cafes and shops. The open bay can have strong currents, so be mindful of swim safety, especially with smaller or less confident swimmers. Parking is available by the beach. **DogParkUK Tip:** Bring fresh water! Brora's wide open spaces are amazing for excitable dogs like retrievers and huskies.
