Bowleaze Cove
📍 Weymouth, Dorset
About This Place
Bowleaze Cove is a sand and pebble beach just over two miles northeast from Weymouth. At low tide further patches of sand and a number of rockpools become visible. --> There is a slipway here suitable for launching small craft and a short pier used mainly by anglers. In summer the beach is popular with families as well as jet-ski enthusiasts and the water is zoned for the safety of bathers. Children might enjoy paddling in the shallow waters of the cove or in the River Jordan which enters the sea at the beach. Above Furzy Cliff, between the cove and the village of Preston visitors might be interested in checking out the ruins of a Roman temple which can be found at Jordan Hill. From the beach there are good views over the Jurassic coastline towards Weymouth and the Isle of Portland. In peak holiday season this can be a good spot to view the weekly Weymouth firework display.Facilities include a café and gift shop and a nearby pub. During the summer season a funfair operates next to the beach and there is a car boot sale on Mondays in the beach car park.
💡 Our Take
Looking for a simple, dog-friendly beach in Dorset? We at DogParkUK recommend Bowleaze Cove. This sandy beach welcomes dogs all year round, which is fantastic! Parking is available nearby, although facilities are minimal. Swim safety can be a concern; always monitor your dog closely, especially if they're not confident swimmers. This is best for energetic dogs who love to run on open sand. It's not ideal for anxious pups needing constant stimulation. Our tip? Bring your own water and shade, as there isn't much provided by the Cove itself. Have fun splashing about!
