Boulmer Beach

About This Place
The first thing to know about Boulmer is it is pronounced βBoomerβ. It is a little fishing village situated in the middle of the Northumberland coast and its character has remained pretty much unchanged over the years giving it a timeless feel. --> Strangely for a fishing village there is no harbour in Boulmer. Instead the boats (known as cobles) are pulled up the beach by tractors. Not a lot else goes on in Boulmer which makes it a great spot to get away from it all, but donβt expect much in the way of facilities. Boulmer Beach is a good-sized stretch of fine golden sand which runs for a few hundred metres between the village and Seaton Point. There is a tendency for seaweed to be blown onto the beach when it gets stormy, which can somewhat spoil the appearance and does put some people off. That said, this is more a winter thing and when the beach is clear it is a glorious spot. Back in the old days Boulmer was something of a hub for smuggling. Contraband was brought from far and wide to the village pub - the Fishing Boat Inn. The pub remains the only place to eat and drink in the village, but as far as I know the smuggling is gone.
