About This Place

The Hartland coast is one of the remotest stretches in Devon, but also the most dramatic. To describe this coastline as rugged would be something of an understatement with its towering cliffs and jagged rocks that rise up like teeth. Combine this with relentless Atlantic storms and you have prime wrecking territory. The Shipwreck Museum at nearby Hartland Quay is testimony to this. --> Sitting at the foot of Berry Cliff and backed by the folded strata that characterises this coast is Blegberry Beach. A fair-sized stretch of grey pebble beach punctuated by long fingers of rock this is a place for those looking to get away from it all. There’s no such thing as a busy day at Blegberry, partly on account of its remoteness. The nearest parking is at Hartland Quay which is around a half an hour walk away.Besides taking in the surroundings there isn’t a great deal to do at Blegberry beach. There are no facilities and swimming here is not advised. On occasions you will see people surfing here, but this is best left to experienced surfers.
