If you’re looking for plenty of action, at a traditional seaside resort, then Blackpool is quite possibly the best beach destination in the country. The town boasts three piers and at the end of the “Golden Mile” lies the famous South Pier. This pier is jam packed with all the amusements and rides that you would expect, and then some. There are trampolines, roller coasters, dodgems and waltzers to name but a few.  --> Blackpool’s South Beach itself offers a wide expanse of sand which is generally quieter than the beaches further up The Golden Mile.  The beach is backed by a concrete sea-wall which forms the base of the promenade that runs all the way along the beach.  Along the promenade are a series of sculptures and other installations, including a rotating wind shelter-designed to rotate to give its occupants maximum protection from the bracing sea breezes. Just south of South Pier, behind the promenade, is Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach - not a beach at all but a giant amusement park, boasting “The Big One” - Europe’s fastest a nd reputedly scariest rollercoaster - this one’s truly not for the fainthearted.  Views of the roller coasters and other structures of the Pleasure Beach dominate the skyline behind South Beach.  At the end of every summer season, the bright lights of Blackpool Illuminations light up the town’s seafront.
