About This Place

The crescent-shaped beach of Blackpool Sands is set against an attractive backdrop of pines and the rolling South Hams countryside. The beach itself is something of a misnomer as the sand is in reality mostly a coarse shingle – there is some sand towards the top of the beach though. --> There are sandpits for children, while water sports enthusiasts can try kayaking or paddle boarding. Wetsuits and other pieces of equipment are usually available for hire. Those with young children might like to know that the beach shelves quite steeply if you go into the sea, and the waves can be very powerful here. On sunny days, there is often no shade at this beach. Amenities include toilets, showers, and disabled facilities. Parking is available and dogs are not allowed in the car parks or on Blackpool Sands itself from March through to the end of October. Expect to pay around Β£10 if parking for the whole day. A lifeguard service is in operation in season. The beach is privately managed, and there is only one food outlet at this location, which can therefore get very busy. The beach is a frequent winner of the Blue Flag award.

πŸ’‘ Our Take

Blackpool Sands, nestled in the beautiful Devon coastline, is a haven for canine companions. This pristine, shingle beach allows dogs year-round, ensuring your furry friend can romp freely on its smooth, pebbly surface. Its scenic vistas make it ideal for energetic big dogs and adventurous puppies eager to explore. A practical tip: parking is available, but it can fill up quickly, so arrive early during summer months. Though amenities are nearby, do keep an eye on swim safety, as the sea can be unpredictable. Blackpool Sands is the perfect escape for dog lovers seeking a tranquil beach day in Devon.
