About This Place

This secluded little cove lies between Hartland Quay and Blegberry beach on a rugged and dramatic section of the North Devon coast. Also known as Abbey River beach; this name comes from the stream which flows out from the beach and is named after Hartland Abbey which it passes. --> Like all the beaches around Hartland, Blackpool Mill is characterised by high cliffs formed of heavily folded rock strata and jagged fingers of rock reaching out into the sea. The beach itself is composed of large grey pebbles above the high tide mark although you might find some sand on lower tides. The beach is always quiet as it is a good walk from Hartland Quay. There is also a scenic walk down the wooded valley from Hartland Abbey.

๐Ÿ’ก Our Take

Blackpool Mill Beach, in lovely Lancashire, is a fantastic year-round dog-friendly haven! With stretches of sand to zoom across, your furry pal will adore this easily accessible beach. The freedom from seasonal restrictions makes it ideal for spontaneous trips, perfect for dogs of all sizes! While we don't have all facility details, it's best practise to bring your own water and poop bags. Parking near the beach is usually simple. Swim safety isn't clearly marked, so be cautious with dogs prone to chasing waves, and keep them within sight. Itโ€™s great for energetic dogs, puppies discovering the sea, and those building confidence around water!
