Wardie Bay

πŸ“ Edinburgh, Edinburgh

About This Place

Wardie Bay is a small, urban beach situated beside Granton Harbour on the north side of Edinburgh. The beach is easily accessible and has become a firm favourite among locals. --> The sandy shore slopes gently towards the water, which is generally fairly calm, particularly inside the breakwater. From Wardie, there are views out across the Firth of Forth, and on a clear day you can see Fife on the opposite shore. It’s also a good place for watching birds and boats, with plenty of sea traffic and coastal wildlife passing through. Over recent years the water in this part of the Firth has been significantly cleaned up. Since 2023 Wardie Bay has been a designated bathing area resulting in it becoming a popular wild swimming spot. There’s no lifeguard or formal changing area, but swimmers often use the steps leading into the water or the rocks at the western edge. On calm days it’s well worth taking the 500 metre walk along the breakwater for a bit of sea air.
