Barton-On-Sea (Christchurch) Beach
π Bournemouth, Dorset
About This Place
Barton-on-Sea offers a short, shingle and rock beach, backed by high, clay cliffs.Β These cliffs are unstable in places, and access points to the beach were temporarily closed-off in May 2017 after a landslide.Β In addition the beach suffers from coastal erosion and is said to have been the first beach in England to use rock groynes as a coastal defence. --> The area has some stunning cliff-top walks, with views out towards Hengistbury Head to the west and The Solent and Isle of Wight to the east.Β A cliff-top cafΓ© and a restaurant provide excellent views of the entire bay. The area is also popular with golfers and paragliders.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a reliably dog-friendly beach in Dorset? We at DogParkUK heartily recommend Barton-On-Sea near Christchurch! This sandy stretch welcomes dogs year-round, making it fantastic for off-season romps. Parking's available nearby, though shops and cafes are a short walk away, so pack a water bowl. Swimming is generally safe, but check tides beforehand. This beach is ideal for bouncy, confident dogs who love the sand. Big dogs will love the space! A word of caution: the beach can get busy in summer, so consider visiting during off-peak hours for more relaxed play.
