About This Place
Situated near the extreme north western tip of mainland scotland is Balnakeil beach, an expansive crescent of near white sand backed by grassy dunes. The beach forms one side of a narrow neck of land that stretches out to the rocky headland of Faraid Head. --> Overlooking the beach are two buildings of interest; most obvious is the imposing white Balnakeil House which was built in the 18th century before many years of decline. From being a laird’s residence it became home to tenant sheep farmer and eventually derelict. Today it has been renovated and is holiday let. Just across the road are the ruins of Balnakeil church and graveyard. Built in the 1600s the church was abandoned over 200 years ago and now stands as a ruin. This is prime walking country and most of those frequenting the beach will be en route to the headland. Much of the year though, you will probably be the only person on the beach, and this is a great spot to get away from it all.
💡 Our Take
Discover Balnakeil Beach in Sutherland, a true haven for dogs year-round. This expansive beach features soft, golden sands, perfect for digging paws. Accessible parking makes visits easy, though facilities are limited—consider packing essentials! Not only can your furry friend frolic to their heart's content, but the gentle waves make it safe even for puppies and anxious dogs. Be mindful of strong currents further out, so keep swimming close to the shore. Balnakeil's vast space is ideal for big dogs needing to stretch their legs. At DogParkUK, we truly believe it's a delightful escape for both dogs and their humans.
