About This Place
Ballyholme is a sandy beach in a crescent-shaped bay in an eastern suburb of the town of Bangor.Β The strand stretches for slightly over one kilometer, and is interspersed by a number of wooden groynes. --> For most of its length, Ballyholme beach is backed by a sea wall, with a walking promenade above it. The beach and promenade offer excellent views of the surrounding hilly coastline and the town of Bangor. This is especially the case at night when the lights of the city reflect beautifully on the water. Sailing is a popular pastime here, with the Ballyholme Yacht Club located at the western end of the beach. A car park can be found at the end of Bank Lane at the eastern end of the beach, as well as public toilets and a small childrenβs play area. The beach can be accessed down a short ramp. Safety information about bathing is signposted on the beach between June and September. The centre of Bangor is about 1 kilometre west of the beach and offers many facilities to visitors as would be expected in a large town, including a train station with frequent services to Belfast.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a carefree beach day in Northern Ireland? DogParkUK recommends Ballyholme Beach, near Bangor! Dogs are welcome year-round, making it paw-fect for off-season walks. The sand is lovely, great for zoomies, but facilities are limited. There's parking nearby, but bring water, and poop bags as bins may be scarce. Swim safety can vary with currents so supervise your dog closely. It's ideal for confident larger breeds who love a good run, but maybe less so for easily anxious pups due to its exposed location. **Tip:** Check tide times before you go to maximise your sandy fun!
