About This Place

Ballygally is a fairly small, sandy beach that is popular with both locals and tourists who come here to enjoy a paddle during the summer months and for fishing during the rest of the year. This is also ‘Game of Thrones’ country with some scenes being filmed around this area of the County Antrim coast. --> At the western end of the beach, a small stream runs into the sea and the beach becomes rockier.  Young explorers may enjoy searching in the rock pools for marine wildlife. In the village centre there is a car park across the road from the beach. Public toilets can also be found here, and a large children’s playground is located across Croft Road at the far end of the car park. The beach can be accessed via a long ramp. Further parking can be found along Coast Road to the east of the beach. Towering over the beach, are the Scottish baronial-style turrets of Ballygally Castle Hotel, the oldest occupied building in Ireland, and supposedly a haunted castle. Dogs must be kept on a lead on the beach between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm from the beginning of June until the end of August, plus all public holidays, and any other times when the beach is busy. Dog bins are provided.

💡 Our Take

Ballygally Beach, nestled in scenic County Antrim, offers a charming haven for dogs year-round. The soft, golden sands provide a perfect playground for playful pups and curious older dogs alike. With ample parking available, it's easy for you and your furry friend to embark on your coastal adventure. Nearby facilities ensure convenience, while clear waters make for a safe swimming spree. This beach is especially great for social pups and big dogs needing room to roam. However, be mindful of tides, as they can alter the shoreline. Ballygally Beach is genuinely a pup's dream escape, highly recommended by DogParkUK!
