Bain's Beach
📍 Lerwick, Shetland Islands
About This Place
An urban beach is probably the last thing you would expect in the Shetland Isles, but Bain’s beach is very much in downtown Lerwick - capital of the islands. --> Tucked in behind the Lodberries the beach here is easily overlooked. Then again as possibly the most iconic buildings in Shetland many people have probably accidentally discovered Bain’s beach whilst looking for the home of fictional detective Jimmy Perez.Bain’s beach only really exists towards low tide and then it is accessible via a set of steps on the western end of the beach. It’s a fairly modest stretch of sand and it doesn’t get much sun later in the day but it’s a fascinating spot with great views across to Bressay.
💡 Our Take
Nestled in the heart of Scotland, Bain's Beach is a dog lover’s haven, welcoming pups year-round with its soft sandy shores perfect for long strolls or energetic play. Ideal for any dog size, from bouncy puppies to serene seniors, its gentle sands are kind to paws and joints. Convenient parking is available nearby, with quaint Stonehaven offering facilities just a short walk away. While the inviting waters are safe for a cool dip, always supervise adventurous swimmers. A practical tip: bring water and snacks as amenities are sparse. Bain's Beach is a tranquil escape for dogs who thrive in open spaces.
