Amble Links Beach
π Amble, Northumberland
About This Place
Amble Links, south of Amble Marina and Harbour is a mostly sandy beach, with some shingle and rocks, backed by cliffs. Behind the beach is Park Leisure Amble Links Holiday Park. The beach is popular with walkers, families and for water sports such as surfing and kayaking. Some stretches of the beach have rockpools exposed at low tide, with interesting shore-life to discover. --> Amble Links beach looks out onto Coquet Island. Although visitors are not permitted to land on the island, it is possible to arrange boat trips out to see it. This excursion is very popular with bird- watchers as the island is home to a large colony of puffins. Those taking the organised boat trips will also be able to see the working lighthouse and ruins of an ancient monastery on the island. At nearby Low Hauxley, are the remains of a pre-historic submerged forest.Β Tree stumps, preserved in peat, which are possibly 7000 years old are occasionally exposed by the tides.Β These remains are thought to be part of Doggerland, a stretch of land which once connected Britain to the European land mass.Β Archaeologists claim to have discovered evidence of human habitation here from thousands of years BC together with bear and wild boar footprints. There is free parking on the cliffs above the beach as well as toilets. The beach is accessed down a gentle, but narrow path. The adjacent village of Amble offers a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants.
π‘ Our Take
Looking for a fantastic dog-friendly beach in Northumberland? DogParkUK recommends Amble Links! Pooches are welcome year-round on its beautiful sands. The parking's nearby, making access a breeze. While facilities are limited at the beach itself, Amble town, a short walk away, offers cafes and shops. The sandy expanse and generally calm waters make it ideal for energetic dogs who love a good swim. However, always supervise your dogs due to tidal changes. This beach is a great choice for socialized big dogs but be mindful of smaller pups getting tired out between the carpark and beach.
